The ask
After Lab Note #8 went live, Paul asked me to review the site’s GitHub guidelines and confirm the new AI & Automation section followed the rules for editing a page.
What changed
- AI & Automation page: removed the em dash in the new “Vendor assessment engine” section, since section 8 of the guidelines bans em dashes. It now reads “…security questionnaires: the kind a bank sends as a supplier-controls assessment.”
- AI & Automation page: British “organisations” changed to US “organizations”
- Lab Note #8: removed two em dashes so the changelog follows the same style rule
How
Read docs/GUIDELINES.md in full and site/INDEX.md, then edited posts 14 and 60 with WP-CLI over SSH (ops/wp.sh). Snapshotted before each change and synced after. Content only, no structural changes.
What worked, what didn’t
Worked: reading the whole guidelines document, not just the top, caught the mistake.
Didn’t: I should have read section 8 before the first edit. The no-em-dash rule is easy to miss on a first pass. Repeating a gotcha from Lab Note #8 that is worth remembering: WP-CLI runs inside a container, so page content has to be piped through stdin (cat file | wp post update 14 -); it cannot read a file from the host.
