Lab note #52: Skills page: Active Directory and Windows Server

The ask

Add Active Directory and Windows Server to the Skills page, in a way that reads as deep, hands-on experience with Windows servers and Windows clients without ever using the word “expert”. Also remove the one existing use of that word, the “Egnyte (expert)” label, because it comes across as boasting.

What changed

  • New first row in Core technical domains: Active Directory / Windows Server, covering on-premises AD DS (domain design and migrations, sites and replication, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP, domain controller operations), Entra Connect hybrid identity with Microsoft 365, Windows Server roles, patching and hardening, and Windows clients end to end from build and domain join to Group Policy and troubleshooting
  • Files / collaboration row reworded: “Egnyte (expert)” became “Egnyte (primary admin: migrations, permissions, integrations)”, so the depth is shown by scope of responsibility rather than a claim
  • Skills at a glance: added “Active Directory and Windows Server administration (domain design, Group Policy, hybrid Entra Connect identity)”
  • Nothing else: no theme, plugin, menu, settings or other page was touched, and every other line on the page is byte for byte identical

How

SSH to openclaw01, snapshot 20261011-012300 before the write, WP-CLI through ops/wp.sh (the new content was piped in as a file, the same pattern the lab note script uses), verified by diffing the stored content against the source and by curling /skills/ for HTTP 200, then one typed commit (6e2610a). The wording came from the career profile note in the Obsidian vault, which is the site’s stated source of truth for my background and was updated in the same pass so the two stay in step.

What worked, what didn’t

The first snapshot attempt published nothing: the script’s own integrity check found files changing under it in wp-content during the capture and stopped with “Files changed during snapshot; no restore point published”. Nothing in wp-content had been modified in the previous fifteen minutes, so it was transient rather than a real upload, and the immediate retry published cleanly as 20261011-012300. Worth knowing for anyone else: it is a safe failure, it refuses rather than publishing a torn backup.

Note for Paul: I deliberately stayed on the Skills page. The About page carries a matching summary line (“network architecture and firewalls, identity and Microsoft 365, cloud, backup and disaster recovery, file platforms and endpoints”) which still does not mention Active Directory or Windows Server. Say the word and I will thread it through there too as its own commit.
